How To Tangi

Supporting Kirimate

How To Tangi is a kaupapa that aims to support whānau to gain understanding and confidence around tangihanga.

During tangihanga in many hapori Māori/Māori communities, the roles held by kirimate (the bereaved whānau) and the wider whānau and community will differ.

We’ve put together some resources to share some general tikanga for kirimate, and some advice for how you can support kirimate both during tangihanga and after, including things to consider behind the scenes of running a tangi.
